We gave away five double passes to see Dior and I at Rialto Newmarket. Looking forward to hearing feedback and reviews.
If you love fashion, you will love fashion movies here's a couple of good ones that you should see - or see again (we're all about recycling and keeping good things going).
Bill Cunningham New York
A movie about one of the most influential people in fashion - not that you'd ever notice him if he was standing right next to you on the street in New York (he's probably the little old man in the blue factory worker's jacket with the bicycle…oh, and the camera).
The Eye Wants To Travel
Diana Vreeland was a fashion editor - she was the fashion editor. She created the modern fashion magazine look and style. This movie features a trove of images from her time at Harpers Bazar, Vogue and at the Metropolitan museum. Even if you've never heard of Ms Vreeland you can be sure she has influenced your taste.
The September Issue
The September issue of Vogue magazine is a major event on the media and cultural landscape. This movie goes behind the scenes at Vogue as preparations are made for the magazine's release. It's a fascinating insight into not only the business of promoting fashion but also the relatonship with editor Anna Wintour and creative director Grace Coddington. Sometimes it's stormy. They don't always see eye to eye. But the magazine gets done regardless - and they move on. Just like all great relationships?
Valentino - The Last Emperor
What happens when you build an empire on youth and beauty - but the time comes to retire and pass on your legacy. You'll find out…
Dior and I
(Still running at the Rialto - get along to see it - these movies often don't run for long). Is it good? Leave your review in the comments section.
RENEW is offering you an exclusive peek behind the scenes at the venerable couture house of Dior. When you spend $100 this week we'll put you in the daily draw to win a pair of passes to Dior & I - the fashion movie of the year. It is by the same director as The Eye Has To Travel - the award winning documentary about Diana Vreeland. We have 5 double passes for our customers.
We haven't seen it yet - but the reviews have been amazing and we are looking forward to it. Come in this week - we'll draw a winner every day until the weekend and let you know that same day.
If you just want to see the movie anyway - here are the session times at the Rialto Cinema in Newmarket.
The Guardian said:
"Tcheng uses some of the founder’s own words from the 1940s as a narrative voiceover, a kind of presiding ghost, who eerily went through the same anxieties that Simons is experiencing. The spectacle of highly competent professionals going about their work is always absorbing, and Simons is an interesting man: reticent, calm, shy, intensely focused but apparently never losing control until the end. It is all about the climactic catwalk moment, the theatrical display of the creations – that parade of impassive models, beautiful, almost sacrificial, faintly bizarre, brides without a groom; or rather, like nuns, brides of the Christ-like figure of the designer, who is always prevailed upon to make his shy appearance at the last. It is absurd, but mesmeric."
